PURPOSE: A mouse using an optical sensor and an operating method thereof are provided to support a scroll function of top, bottom, left, and right directions by mounting the optical sensor on the mouse for the scroll function. CONSTITUTION: A mouse includes a mouse pointer reader unit(112), a mouse button reader unit(110), a communication unit(108), an optical recognizing unit(102), a reading unit(104), and an operating unit(106). The mouse pointer reader unit(112) uses a ball sensing method and an optical sensing method in order to control a pointer of the mouse. The mouse button reader unit(110) includes two buttons having a basic function of the mouse. The communication unit(108) receives a signal from the reader units and transmits it to a computer. The optical recognizing unit(102) recognizes optically a movement of an object contacted to an upper part of a sensing window of the optical sensor. The reading unit(104) reads a recognized value by the optical recognizing unit(102) and creates a moving direction and a moving distance as an electric signal. The operating unit(106) processes the electric signal from the reading unit(104) to output information representing the move direction and the move distance as digital data. The communication unit(108) formats the digital data suitable for a protocol for use in transmitting the information of the operating unit(106) to a USB(Universal Serial Bus) port or a serial port, to thereby send the digital data formatted to the computer. |
