PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of an unusual noise at the closing of a door body in a shock absorber installed above the opening part of a sliding door to absorb a shock at the above closing. SOLUTION: A piston cylinder 7 serving as the shock absorber is installed on the side of the door body 1. A rod supporting fitting 11 is installed in the upper part on the door end side of the opening part, which is equivalent to the side of a building frame. A cushion material 12, whereto a sheet material 12a possessing a low coefficient of friction is stuck, is installed in the rod supporting surface part 11b of the fitting 11. The shock absorber is constituted as follows: a yoke 7c at the end part of the cylinder rod 7b of the piston cylinder 7 is covered with a rubber cap 10 formed with a projection 10a so as to enable the cap 10 to move up on the surface of the sheet material 12 according to an upward movement associated with the contraction of the cylinder rod 7b.
