PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient purification process for producing 2-alkyl-2- adamantyl (meth)acrylate of high purity from the crude compound that is prepared by reaction of 2-alkyl or 2-alkylidene-adamantan derivative bearing an alkyl group and -OH or -OM [M is an alkali metal or MgX (X is halogen)], which is obtained by alkylation of adamantanone or the like, with a (meth) acrylic derivative. SOLUTION: The crude 2-alkyl-2-adamantyl (meth)acrylate is subjected to thin-film distillation so that the 2-alkyl-2-adamantyl (meth)acrylate may not be decomposed, as the heating temperature and time are adjusted to t<=exp[(A/ T)+B] (A and B are the constants that are decided from the relation between the heating temperature and the time at which the decomposition of the chemical becomes at a specific ratio on the basis of the thermal decomposition test with the standard sample that has substantially the same composition of the crude 2-alkyl-2-adamantyl (meth)acrylate).
