METHOD FOR PRODUCING POLYHYDRIC ALCOHOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining a high purity polyhydric alcohol in a high yield, producing less byproducts such as acetal compounds or aldol compounds even on extracting the polyhydric alcohol from a reaction product liquid by using an aliphatic aldehyde as an extracting agent in producing the polyhydric alcohol by reacting the aliphatic aldehyde with formaldehyde. SOLUTION: This method for producing a polyhydric alcohol is provided by separating the extracting agent after adjusting pH of the extracting agent on extracting the polyhydric alcohol from the reaction product liquid by using the aliphatic aldehyde as an extracting solvent.
