Door opener for roll type door with outside motor

A door opener for a roll-type door 16 in a cargo van or vehicle 10 includes a shaft 42 that is mounted for rotation within the cargo van body 12 and is coupled with the door 16 such that shaft 42 rotation causes the door 16 to move between opened and closed positions which may be guided by tracks 20. The shaft 42 is rotated by a motor 70 that is mounted outside of the cargo van body 10 and is coupled to the rotatable shaft 42 by a drive system that extends through the cargo van body 10. This arrangement allows a relatively large conventional motor to be used without extending into the door opening or compromising the height of the door opening. The drive system may have two sprockets 74 and 76 connected to an endless loop chain 70. Also provided is a light mounted in the cargo van body 10 which lights when the roll-up door is operated.
