Method in which the displacement speed of the device is measured and the operating frequency (fck) of the device is reduced in a series of steps (fck2-fck5) from the normal operating frequency (fck1) dependent on the measured velocity value. An independent claim is made for a navigation device the operating frequency of which is adjusted as a function of its translational velocity. The invention also relates to a watch incorporating a navigation device.
