PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a single plate type bright picture display with a high utilization factor of light in a projection type liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device employs the reflective liquid crystal element in which cylindrical micro lenses 5 are arranged on a counter substrate 11, a first pixel electrode 12 and a second pixel electrode 13 are aligned with a pitch P2 which is a half of a pitch P1 of the cylindrical micro lenses 5 in the width direction and the central part of the first pixel electrode 12 in the row direction and the central part of the cylindrical micro lenses 5 in the width direction coincide with each other. In the liquid crystal display device, two light beams with primary colors different from each other irradiate the cylindrical micro lenses 5 from a first direction in parallel with the optical axis and from a second direction different from the first direction with time- division. |
