PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device having a simple structure which can be driven with low energy and to provide an image display device using the lighting device. SOLUTION: The lighting device 16 consists of a lighting part 12 and a power supply part 14 to supply the electric power to the lighting part 12. The lighting part 12 has a display substrate 26 having an electrode 24 formed on one surface and a back substrate 30 having an electrode 28 formed on the surface facing the display substrate 26, with the substrates disposed facing each other through a spacer 32. First particles 34 and second particles 36 are sealed in the space between the display substrate 26 and the back substrate 30. These parts are housed in a casing 38. The electrode 24 and the electrode 28 are connected to a wiring 40. The wiring 40 is fixed by a wiring fixing part 42 to the casing 38 as well as lead to the outside and connected to the power supply part 14.
