PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connecting method which makes is easy to connect an optical fiber and to efficiently store its excessive part. SOLUTION: The half cylinder 30b on the upper part of the excessive part storing part 30 is removed, a coated optical fiber A inserted from one side and a coated optical fiber B inserted from the other side are pulled out from the long pore 31 of the half cylinder 30a, the former is connected with the latter optically and mechanically, and then the connecting spot is reinforced with a sleeve C. Such a connecting as in the above case of the coated optical fibers A and B is carried out for all of the several coated optical fibers in the cable, though an illustration is not shown here. After such connection of the coated optical fibers is finished, the half cylinder 30b, which has been removed, is put upon the half cylinder 30a and fixed to form a cylinder, and as shown in (b) the excessive part of the optical fiber is wound round the external surface of the excessive part storing part 30. The sleeve C which reinforces the connecting spot is set in the several grooves 32, which are formed by carving round the external surface of the half cylinders 30 (a, b), and fixed.
