RESIN FOR AQUEOUS COATING MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin for an aqueous coating material, exhibiting a pseudo-plastic flow in a low concentration region, and also having a concentration region in which its viscosity hardly changes even on increasing the resin concentration. SOLUTION: This resin for the aqueous coating material is synthesized by performing an emulsion polymerization of at least 1 kind of a hydrophilic group- containing ethylenic monomer with at least 1 kind of a hydrophobic group- containing ethylenic monomer in an aqueous medium. The aqueous medium dispersion of the resin for the aqueous coating material forms core/shell type resin particles by forming an associated part of the hydrophobic groups each other as the core and the hydrophilic part as the shell by the hydrophobic interaction of the hydrophobic groups each other in the resin even without cross-linking the core, and exists stably in the aqueous medium.
