PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized inexpensive absolute value encoder. SOLUTION: When turning on power supply, absolute position data which vary, depending upon the combination of absolute position signals (GRAY code signals GRAY1-6) which are rough in resolution are set on a rotational amount counting means 33, so as to enable the means 33 to make tentative motions. When the means 33 makes the motions, a rotational position detecting means 21 detects the edge of the absolute position signal (GRAY code signal: GRAY1) which is rough resolution and an absolute value setting means 27 sets accurate specific position data per rotation, which varies depending on the occurring position of the edge and outputs and sets the data to and on the rotational amount counting means 33. After the accurate position data are set on the counting means 33, the means 33 is increased or decreased by the output of the rotational amount detecting means 31, which inputs incremental signals IA and IB so as to always show an absolute value. The outputs of the counting means 33 and a rotation counting means 15 are serially outputted via a modem 43. |
