Gear-shift device for an automatic gearbox of a motor vehicle

The selector has a selection lever (1) that automatically rests itself from all selection positions and is used to control the automatic gearbox via a gearbox controller in automatic and manual modes. For each mode each direction of the selection lever is associated with a gearbox operating position. A maximum of four operating positions can be selected per mode using the lever in two essentially mutually perpendicular selection gates. Speed control functions can be controlled using the selection lever in a third mode. The modes are selected using a separate changeover device (4).
