PURPOSE: A lithium secondary battery is provided to improve the energy density and to increase the cycle life by employing the anode comprising the nitride compound having the specific composition. CONSTITUTION: The lithium secondary battery comprises a cathode which can absorbs, stores and desorbs lithium; a nonaqueous electrolyte; and an anode which can absorbs, stores and desorbs lithium, wherein the anode comprises the nitride represented by LixAyMezN, wherein A is B, Si or Al; Me is at least one element selected from the group consisting of transition metals and metals of group 3B to 5B; 0<x<3; 0<y <= 1; 0<z <= 1; and 0<x+y+z <= 3. Preferably Me is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Nb, Cu, Zr, Ni, Mo, Ru, Sn, W, Pb and Bi. |
