PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent valve element chattering in a swing check valve even when the flow rate of fluid passing through the check valve is smaller than an initial design condition. SOLUTION: The swing check valve has a swing valve element 3 arranged in a valve casing 1, and a stopper 11 for limiting the travel of the valve element 3 when the valve element 3 in an opening phase strikes it. The stopper 11 is adjustable in the projection level into the valve casing 1, so that the travel of the valve element 3 where it strikes the stopper 11 is adjustable. The stopper 11 and/or the valve element 3 has a stepwise inclined face striking the mating part so that even if the travel of the valve element 3 where it strikes the stopper 11 changes, the valve element 3 strikes the stopper 11 with a face as perpendicular as possible to the direction of projection of the stopper 11.
