PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an adhesive which is excellent in bonding strength with water resistance, standing stability, and workability for applying. SOLUTION: The adhesive comprises a vinyl ester resin emulsion, which is prepared by utilizing a vinyl alcohol polymer containing 0.5 mol% or more and 10 mol% and less of ethylene units as a dispersant and incorporating a glycol ether compound on the occasion of the emulsion polymerization to obtain the vinyl ester resin emulsion.
