PURPOSE: To overcome a problem such that AV data and information for managing AV data recorded on the disc medium of a video recorder/reproducer may possibly be destructed when an apparatus for supporting a low level access command is connected with a video audio recorder/reproducer. CONSTITUTION: The recorder/reproducer comprises a circuit 11 for controlling recording/reproduction to/from the AV data recording region of a recording medium, an I/O circuit 9 for receiving both kinds of low level access command and non-low level access command; and means for identifying the source unit of command which certifies the source of command, determines whether a received command is a low level access command or a non-low level access command, and further determines whether the source of command is certified or not in case of a low level access command. At least when a write command is received, the recording/reproduction control circuit 11 determines whether a write command is executed or not, based on the identification results from the means for identifying the source unit of command.
