<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device in which a photonic crystal can be easily formed and to provide a photonic crystal optical device. SOLUTION: The optical device has a slab optical waveguide having the core layer showing an electro-optic effect and a means to vary the refractive index of the core layer by an electro-optic effect. A desired periodical pattern of refractive index is induced by the electro-optic effect in at least a part of the core layer to form a photonic crystal.</p> |
