PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal latent image type direct positive silver halide emulsion giving a positive image having high sensitivity and a re-reversal negative image having low sensitivity and nearly free of desensitization in storage and to provide a color diffusion transfer photographic film unit (photosensitive material) using the emulsion. SOLUTION: In the internal latent image type direct positive silver halide emulsion containing flat platy silver halide grains having an average aspect ratio of >=8 formed through a step for forming core grains, a step for chemically sensitizing the core grains and a step for coating each of the core grains with a shell, the core grains are flat platy grains having an average aspect ratio of >=8. The color diffusion transfer photosensitive material contains the silver halide emulsion in at least one of silver halide emulsion layers.
