PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seam position determining device 1 capable of accurately determining whether or not a seam of a golf ball 9 is in a predetermined position. SOLUTION: This seam position determining device 1 is provided with a light source 3, a camera 5, and a computer 7. A computing means such as a CPU and a storage means such as a RAM are built in the computer 7. A light beam is radiated from the light source 3 toward the turning golf ball 9. An image of the golf ball 9 is taken by means of the camera. The image data of the photographed image consists of a white pixel and a black pixel. If there is the white pixel in a predetermined area of the image, it is determined that the seam is not set horizontally. If there is no white pixel in this area, it is determined that the seam is set horizontally.
