PURPOSE: An MP3 player for vehicles is provided to store audio data in a large-capacitance memory first and then output the data and to use both of a CD and a CD-ROM so as to replace an expensive CD changer. CONSTITUTION: An MP3 player for vehicles includes a file format detector(100), an MP3 file input unit(200), an MP3 decoder(500), a controller(401), an interface, and a D/A converter(600). The file format detector reads source data of a CD or CD-ROM to detect the file format of the data. The MP3 file input unit includes an IDE interface(201) for receiving an MP3 audio file, format of which is judged by the file format detector, and performing IDE communication function, an error detector(202) for detecting an error in the MP3 file, and a memory block(203) for controlling a flash memory when an MP3 file having no error is temporarily stored in the memory before transmitted to the decoder. The MP3 decoder receives the MP3 data from the MP3 file input unit to decode compressed data using Huffman decoding and converts the decoded data into pulse code modulation data. The D/A converter receives general audio CD data from the file format detector or accepts the pulse code modulation digital data from the decoder to convert the data into analog data and output the analog data to a speaker.
