PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving mechanism for a carriage capable of executing a thermal head contacting or separating operation, an ink ribbon taking up operation and an ink ribbon rewinding operation by one driving motor. SOLUTION: By providing a driving motor 19 connectable with a feeding out bobbin 15 and rotating the feeding out bobbin 15 by the driving motor 19 in the opposite direction witch respect to the rotation direction of the ink ribbon at the time of taking up, the ink ribbon taken up on a taking up bobbin 14 can be rewound to the feeding up bobbin 15 side.
