PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for processing to gage a web capable of processing even the web of a thin film at a fast speed without cutting the web in processing to gage the web. SOLUTION: A moving base 52 is advanced to approach a disc 62 to a disc 72, and a roller 70 with an upper side knurl is rotated. A cam member 41 is retracted to lower the base 52. Thus, the roller 70 with the knurl is pressure contacted with an upper surface of the web a, but since the roller 70 with the knurl is in a rotating state, a tension is not almost generated at the web a, but the roller 70 is raised at a smooth rotational speed until its circumferential speed substantially coincides with its conveying speed. Then, the base 52 is retracted to separate the disc 62 from the disc 72, the roller 70 is returned to a free state, and the web is continuously gaged in this state.
