PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating device capable of applying a coating liquid uniformly on a web. SOLUTION: The coating device 10 is provided with a backup roll 11 for supporting the web W, a die head 12 for applying the coating liquid on the web W traveling on the backup roll 11 and a heater device 14 provided in the vicinity of the die head. The heater device 14 is composed of plural heater elements 14a, 14b,... provided along the width direction of the web W. The backup roll 11 is heated to 120-150 deg.C by the heater device 14 to be swelled to adjust a gap (g) between the web W and the die head 12 to a fixed value. Then, The swelling of the backup roll 11 is not affected by the heat applied to the web W from the coating liquid heated to 120 deg.C.
