PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a good printing result by keeping the distance between an ink head for printing on a recording paper in the ink-jet method, and a recording paper constantly. SOLUTION: An elevating device for an ink head of an ink-jet printer having an ink head disposed facing a recording paper, for a predetermined printing operation in the ink-jet method, comprising a driving means for driving the ink head in the direction approaching the recording paper and the direction away from the recording paper, a detecting means for detecting the distance between the ink head and the recording paper, and a controlling means for controlling the driving means such that the ink head is driven alternatively in the direction approaching the recording paper or the direction away from the recording paper according to the distance between the ink head and the recording paper detected by the detecting means, is provided.
