METHOD OF ALLOCATING TRACK ADDRESSES IN HARD DISC DRIVE

PURPOSE: A method of allocating track addresses in a hard disc drive is provided to reduce magnetic disc access time and decrease the frequency of off-tracking due to head switching. CONSTITUTION: For the tracks of a certain magnetic disc face, addresses are allocated to the tracks of the magnetic disc in such a manner that addresses are sequentially increased from the track of the first cylinder to the track of the last cylinder. For the tracks of the next magnetic disc face, addresses are allocated to the tracks of the magnetic disc in such a manner that addresses following the previous track addresses are sequentially increased from the track of the first cylinder to the track of the last cylinder. The address allocation steps are repeated until the tracks of the last magnetic disc face are assigned addresses.
