PURPOSE: To eliminate discomfort of an audience which is caused when a sound at a volume level different from that before switching is outputted when an input medium is switched. CONSTITUTION: A sound/picture recording/reproducing system comprises a sound signal switching means which switches between first and second sound signals of a first volume level and a third sound signal of a second volume level and then outputs any one of the first, second, and third sound signals. It also comprises a mute means which applies muting operation to any one of the first and second sound signals outputted from the sound signal switching means when the sound signal switching means switches from the third sound signal to either the first sound signal or the second sound signal.
