PURPOSE: An optical fiber connector assembly is provided to achieve an improved fan out type optical fiber connector. CONSTITUTION: The connector includes a base housing(22) having a through passage for receiving an optical fiber cable(28) and an optical fiber(30) along an axis. A receptacle in the housing communicates with the through-passage, and is open-sided transversely to the axis. A cover(24) is mounted in a slidable manner on the base housing(22), in a direction A which is nearly parallel to the axis. Between the base housing(22) and the cover(24), there are installed guide ribs and guide rails for the purpose of guiding the cover to a closed position. The base housing(22) and the cover(24) are provided with complementary interengaging strain relief members for embracing the optical fiber cable(28) automatically, in response to slidably mounting the cover(24) onto the base housing(22).
