The deposit holder/release mechanism has a box (1) fitted to the trolley, with openings (2,3) at opposite ends. One opening received the lock tongue (4) attached to a chain (5), and the other receives a smart card. Insertion of one causes release of the other, using a spring loaded mechanism (93,42). The smart card is used to store customer purchasing information.
