Linear alkylaromatic hydrocarbons having 10-14 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain are produced by allowing a hydrogenation reaction on a recycled paraffinic stream coming from an alkylation step and comprising paraffins, aromatic by-products, and traces of non-reacted olefins. Production of linear alkylaromatic hydrocarbons having 10-14 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain, includes: (a) dehydrogenating 10-14C n-paraffins to the corresponding n-olefins in a dehydrogenation reactor to form a mixture having n-olefins, diolefins, and aromatic by-products; (b) selectively hydrogenating the diolefins into monoolefins to form a mixture having the n-olefins, the monoolefins, the aromatic by products, and n-paraffins; (c) feeding the mixture, together with a stream comprising an aromatic hydrocarbon, to an alkylation unit having an alkylation catalyst and alkylating to form an alkylation product; (d) distilling the alkylation product to form a fraction comprising the aromatic hydrocarbon, a paraffinic fraction comprising 10-14C n-paraffins and the aromatic by-products, and a fraction comprising the linear alkylaromatic hydrocarbons; (e) hydrogenating the paraffinic fraction to transform the aromatic by-products into cycloparaffins; and, (f) recycling the cycloparaffins to the dehydrogenation reactor.
