Tetra-chlorobenzene isomers or penta-chlorobenzene are further chlorinated to hexa-chlorobenzene or, cleaned up, using fractionation, based on the difference of melting points. The proposed flame retardant additive is simply produced in a high speed mixer from the cleaned up chlorobenzene, halogenated hexa-chlorobenzene and brominated chloro-bromo compound. In the mixing process 30-70% by mass of chlorine containing crystalline material, 2-40% by mass of aluminum trihydrate having a heating loss of 34% by mass and a molecular weight of 78 and 2-50% by mass of silicon dioxide in the form of fine granules are used. The resultant mixture is treated with 1-15% by mass of dispersing agent. The end product can be used to substitute for 5-30% by mass of any flame retardant additive. |
