The invention relates to a braking device for railroad vehicles. According to the invention, the braking device for railroad vehicles comprises at least a lever (6, 6' 6", 33, 33') operating together with a reaction member (11,20 ) and some connecting means (23, 41) located between the traction means and afore-mentioned lever whereto a braking pad is attached (34, 34') in order to be applied on the braking surface by pivoting the lever (6, 6', 33, 33'). Under the action of said traction means, two braking pads (34, 34') exert their force in opposite directions on their braking surface, on the reaction member (11, 20) which is integral with the vehicle structure and has a planar annular surface (12) approximately parallel to the plane of the wheel (36) and coaxial with the wheel, comprising in addition two complementary and integral braking surfaces (35, 35'), each of them being associated with a braking pad (34, 34') and with a lever (6', 6"). The assembly also comprises two levers (33, 33') supporting a braking pad and a cylinder (51) transmitting the force, approximately parallel with a longitudinal piston (52), which is linked to the operating means, as well as with a transverse piston (53), in such a manner that one of the levers (33) is pivotally mounted at its end opposite the pad onto the reaction member (20). The other lever (34') has its end opposite the pad connected to the transverse piston (53) so that the levers ( 33, 33') are connected by a linking rod (41) in their central area.
