The invention relates to a method and installation for surcharging the internal combustion engine used for propelling a road vehicle. The method comprises a first step of filtered air suction into a sealed compression chamber located in the lower crankcase of the motor, one such chamber being provided for each motor cylinder, the air being then compressed against the rear surface of the motor cylinder up to a quasi-constant value of 1.95 bars, irrespective of the motor speed, the compressed air being then discharged, through a self-controlled discharge valve, into a duct which stores it up to the moment of opening the internal combustion engine suction valve. The installation for surcharging the internal combustion engine, employed for applying the method, comprises a pressure chamber (A) for each cylinder separately, mounted in the lower crankcase of motor (1), with spherical inner walls, to allow the operation of the crank and connecting rod assembly. The pressure chamber (A) comprises two bodies (a, b) having an air suction inlet (c), an air outlet (d), a boring (e) of a diameter equal to that of the cylinder of the motor (1) and some through holes (f), a duct (11) being mounted in an orifice (g), having the role of providing a direct path for draining the oil from the lubricated area back into the oil sump.
