The invention relates to a process for recovering 1,2 dichloropropane from the residues resulting from the preparation of propenoxide which consists in cooling the aqueous residue lying at the bottom of the separation column, feeding a mechanical separator with said aqueous residue, the mechanical separator separating an aqueous phase in its upper portion and an organic phase rich in 1,2 dichloropropane in lower portion, and the organic phase being fed to a fraction column where more volatile organic compounds are separated at the top, together with the entire quantity of water, and a mixture comprising 1,2 dichloropropane and other less volatile organic compounds at the bottom, said mixture being fed to a vacuum fraction column, where 1,2 dichloropropane of a concentration of minimum 99% by weight is separated at the top and other less volatile compounds are separated at the bottom.
