The invention relates to a process for preparing hydrogen by the radiolysis of water. According to the invention, the process comprises the step of catalyzed radiolysis of water, using a multicurie source having an activity of 5 . 10 4 Ci, in the presence of a spongy platinum catalyst with large active surface and the step of identification of the resulting products by mass spectrophotometry. The claimed process enables the preparation of a volume of hydrogen 20 times larger than the volume obtained under the same conditions of irradiation of a standard sample, without using said catalyst.
