The invention relates to a process for preparing a urea-formaldehyde adhesive. The process is carried out in a single phase by condensing the formaldehyde with urea and melamine in a molar ratio 1:2 ...2.5 :0.1 ...0.5 in the presence of 20 ...50 % methanol and 0.5 1 % polyvinyl alcohol in a slightly alkaline medium at a temperature ranging from 80 to 90 degree C.
