The harness, having shoulder and waist straps to fit the rucksack (2) or similar carrier to the wearer's back, incorporates a tubular frame (4) with a side projection (5) passing under the armpit which has pivots (12, 13) on its ends for a second frame (11) connected to the first by a quick-release coupling (14). When necessary, the coupling can be released, allowing the second frame to pivot relative to the first and move the rucksack from the wearer's back to a position in front of the chest for convenient access.
