The invalid reclines on a cradle (1) which may be attached to fixed points (6) on a hoop frame (7) fixed to the bed chassis (9) by grips and rings (3,4). The cradle may include longitudinal stiffeners and will have an aperture for bodily functions. When the cradle is secured the normal hospital bed motorization is used to lower the bed and mattress (8) to give a space below the cradle.
