Spot welding electrode (1, 1') position is controlled by placing the holder (4) in a specific position, and applying an active surface (10) of the electrode in the center (660, 670) of an annular conductive zone (640, 650) of a target (6) enclosing an insulating zone (660, 670). Electrode position is outside acceptance zone if electric contact is established between conducting zone and electrode. Preferred Features: The welding holder (4) comprise two electrodes (1, 1') opposed to one another and the target has two contact faces (66, 67) that are parallel to each other. The conducting zone (640, 650) and the insulating zone (660, 670) are in the same place as a contact face (66, 67). Independent claims are given for: (a) a system for controlling the position of a spot welding electrode; and (b) a target having at least one contact face (66, 67) comprising an insulating zone (660, 670) made of synthetic material and a conducting zone (640, 650) consisting of a metallic ring (64, 65). |
