A file divider (1) or other article with an erasable surface consists of a paper, card or plastic substrate (3) covered at least partially with a thin layer of polypropylene (4) stuck to the substrate by a layer of a transparent water-soluble or thermoplastic adhesive. The polypropylene layer is preferably 12 microns thick, and the adhesive layer is preferably 10 microns thick.
