The phased array antenna comprises a first antenna element, a second antenna element and a signal splitter. The signal splitter includes an amplitude splitter and a phasing device and has a single feed. The amplitudes of, and phase relationship between, a first signal from the signal splitter to the first antenna element and a second signal from the signal splitter to the second antenna element are such that the field pattern of the antenna has a reduced field strength over a region adjacent the antenna.
