An apparatus (10) for dispensing a substance from a collapsible substance containing tube (70), the tube (70) having an outlet opening (76) through which the substance is dispensed, the apparatus (10) comprising a housing (12), a slider (50) positioned within the housing (12), the slider (50) having a passage (64) therethrough, first (60) and (62) second flexible members passable through the passage (64) in the slider (50), the first (60) and second (62) flexible members for exerting pressure on the tube (70), a rod (30) for supporting the slider (50) within the housing (12), the slider (50) being movable along a length of the housing (12) along the rod (30) upon the rotation of the rod (30) and a motor (26) couplable to the rod (30) for causing rotation of the rod (30), therein the movement of the slider (50) along the rod (30) urges the first flexible (60) member towards the second (62) flexible member, whereby the urging of the first (60) and second (62) flexible members towards each other causes pressure to be exerted against the tube (70) thereby collapsing the tube (70) and pressurizing the substance therein so as to cause the dispensing of the substance out the outlet opening (76) in the tube (70). In a preferred embodiment, the apparatus (10) is a toothpaste dispenser and the substance is toothpaste. An internal cross sectional view of the apparatus (10) can be seen in Figure 2.
