USE AS THICKENERS IN COSMETICS OF NEUTRALIZED COPOLYMERS COMPRISING WEAK ACID UNITS AND STRONG ACID UNITS, AND COSMETIC COMPOSITIONS COMPRISING SAME

The invention concerns a cosmetic, dermatological, pharmaceutical or veterinary composition comprising at least a thickening and/or emulsifying polymer for an aqueous medium, obtained by polymerisation: of at least an unsaturated weak acid such as acrylic acid, and of at least an unsaturated strong acid such as AMPS, in the presence of a crosslinking or branching agent and optionally of a transfer agent, and characterised by a fraction of water soluble polymers ranging between 5 and 50 wt. %, preferably between 8 and 35 wt. %. Said acids are partly neutralized at the time of polymerisation. The resulting composition unexpectedly exhibits optimal cosmetic characteristics with in particular a very high stability in the presence of electrolytes in a very wide range of pH (1-13) as a result of the appropriate selection of conditions for polymerising the thickening and/or emulsifying polymer (rate of neutralisation, active material concentration, weak acid/strong acid mol ratio).
