PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable detecting of a pretilt angle of an element, with the orientation of molecules twisted between the incident side and the emission side thereof, easily and in a shorter time with a simple measuring apparatus. SOLUTION: A detector is constituted of a power source 1, a polarizer 2, a liquid crystal cell 3, a 1/4 wavelength plate 4, an analyzer 5, an photo detector 6, a processor and the like. The processor obtains the intensity of the transmission light transmitted through the liquid crystal cell 3 at a plurality of angles of incidence from the photo detector 6. The processor also detects stokes parameters corresponding to the plurality of angles of incidence based on the intensity of the transmission light corresponding to the plurality of angles of incidence. Moreover, apparent retardations are detected corresponding to the plurality of angles of incidence based on the stokes parameters corresponding to the plurality of angles of incidence. The pretilt angle of the liquid crystal cell 3 is detected based on the apparent retardations corresponding to the plurality of angles of incidence thus detected. |
