PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lamp control device and a picture reading device which surely detect the leak current between an inverter and a lamp. SOLUTION: An inverter 109 outputs a signal of lowering voltage according to the voltage drop of the current supplied to a lamp 107, and a leak detecting circuit 111 detects the leak current between the lamp 107 and the inverter 109 by detecting the fact that the voltage of signal outputted from the inverter 109 became lower than a subscribed voltage.
