A magnetic core memory array comprises a stack of circular non-magnetic discs R1-R8, Fig. 3, each of which is provided with a like number of shouldered openings 32, Fig. 4, accommodating the toroidal cores 28a of the array, the discs being mounted on a common spindle and arranged so that they may be rotated relatively to each other. The rotatable discs facilitate threading of the X and Y coordinate driving leads 17, 19 and the sensing and inhibit leads 18, 20 through the cores, the wiring process involving threading the leads 17 and 19 through vertical columns of openings; rotating each disc relatively to the adjacent discs through an angle alpha corresponding to the angle between adjacent openings, threading the leads 18 and 20 through the new vertical columns of openings, and finally setting each disc back through an angle alpha/2 relative to its neighbour so that only alternate openings form vertical columns and the X and Y leads 17, 19 are physically positioned at right angles to each other. This stage of assembly is shown in part-sectional form in Fig. 16. The angular alignment of the discs during the various stages of wiring is controlled by a locating rod 37 which is passed in turn through a hole a, b, c in each disc, these holes being arranged as shown in Fig. 7. Each disc may be formed of acrylic plastic, and on its reverse face, Fig. 5, has an integral boss 31 providing spaces between the stack of discs for accommodating wiring which lies in the plane of the discs during or after assembly. The cores are secured in the disc openings by a retaining sheet of tissue paper 34, Fig. 4, which is glued to the upper surface. The array assembly is completed by discs of insulation material 25, 26 having terminals 44, 45 to which the array leads are soldered, the assembly being clamped up by an axial bolt 27. |
