PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device which can quickly detect only a bar code out of image data having a bar code-like pattern. SOLUTION: This method includes an image fetching process to scan a printed matter containing a bar code for producing 0-degree image data, a 1st retrieval process to scan the 0-degree image data in a single prescribed direction and to retrieve an area including an image that is coincident with the bar code pitch interval or the bar length of the bar code, an image rotation process to rotate the 0-degree image data by 90 degrees on the same plane and in a prescribed direction for producing the 90-degree rotation image data, a 2nd retrieval process to scan the 90-degree rotation image data in a prescribed direction and to retrieval an area having an image coincident with the bar code pitch interval or the bar length of the bar code and an overlapping area detection process to define the area that is retrieved in both 1st and 2nd retrieval processes as an area where the bar code is included. |
