PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging unit that can very easily realize photographing for a long time without deterioration in the image quality by controlling the operation or providing information in response to a degree of cooling of an imaging device. SOLUTION: An inexpensive cooling material easy to be acquired being typically dry ice is put in or mounted in a pocket provided in an imaging unit main body to very much decrease a dark current of an imaging device 22 so as to attain long time exposure required for astrography or the like. Since a temperature sensing element 40 provided between the pocket and the imaging device 22 or in the vicinity of the imaging device 22 can sense a temperature of the imaging device 22, the operation control or provision of information in response to a degree of cooling of the imaging device 22 can be realized and photographing for a long time can very easily be realized as a result without deterioration in the image quality.
