PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal battery capable of improving the discharging duration. SOLUTION: A serially connected arrangement of such a structure that a plurality of unit batteries 1 are connected in series with heat emitting substance 2 interposed, is surrounded by an envelope consisting of a latent heat generating layer 15, heat emitting layer 16 and heat insulating layer 17 and accommodated in an inner jar 10-1, which is closed tightly by an inner lid 11-1 penetrated air-tightly by an inner terminal for ignition 14-1, positive electrode internal terminal 12-1 and negative electrode internal terminal 13-1, and accommodated in an outer jar 10-2. The outer jar 10-2 is closed tightly by an outer lid 11-2 penetrated air-tightly by an outer terminal for ignition 14-2, positive electrode external terminal 12-2 and negative electrode external terminal 13-2, and the inner terminal for ignition 14-1, positive electrode internal terminal 12-1 and negative electrode internal terminal 13-1 are fitted to the outer terminal for ignition 14-2, positive electrode external terminal 12-2 and negative electrode external terminal 13-2.
