PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve strength near the short axis of a color picture tube which has almost a flat external panel surface, and has curvature at an internal panel surface and a shadow mask. SOLUTION: The cathode-ray tube is composed of an in-line configuration electron gun and a dot fluorescent screen; the external panel surface is almost flat, and the internal surface has a curved surface; the shadow mask has round holes with convex curved surface toward the panel. The holes of the shadow mask has horizontal pitch Ph and vertical pitch Pv; the horizontal pitch Ph is larger in the edge part of eh shadow mask short axis than in the center part by 5% or more; Ph/Pv is larger in the edge part of the shadow mask short axis than in the shadow mask center. Thus, strength near the short axis of the shadow mask increases.
