PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle dimension measuring device for accurately measuring the dimension of a vehicle by oppositely installing plural light projecting parts and light receiving parts on both sides of the approach path of the vehicle approaching an area sensor constituted by using many photocell sensors and observing the time sequential change of the on/off of the respective photocell sensors for constituting the area sensor. SOLUTION: A photoelectric detection part 1 for which plural light emitting parts are arranged with a prescribed interval in the height direction of the vehicle on the side part of the approach path of the vehicle and the light receiving parts for receiving light from the light emitting parts are arranged on the other side part is arranged. The light receiving part which does not receive the light by being light-shielded by the maximum height part of the vehicle is detected and a vehicle height is measured. A time difference between a preceding signal and a following signal relating to each of the time that the light receiving part does not receive the light by being light-shielded by the tip part of the vehicle and the time that light shielding is cancelled after the light shielding and it receives the light again or the combination is measured and the dimension of a vehicle length direction is measured.
